Hippie

I have exhibited a collection of pen drawings and paintings which represent different aspects of my hippie theme. With my theme being hippie, I have explored different ways to create a hippie pattern tapestry art piece and with these exhibited pieces I have not only created a tapestry art piece but also provided context to each piece. The light neon psychedelic colours in the backgrounds creates a bold contrast between the darker colours/shapes/patterns. The contrast between the textured embroidered thread and the pattern prints creates depth within the picnic. I used colours to represent meanings and feelings. For example orange represents how you interact with people and things in life. The different shapes create a variety of different feelings for example the loose squiggly lines represent being free.

Ceramics

I have exhibited a collection of ceramics and other materials that link to my theme of the FMP. With my theme being Tribes and Cultures, I have explored different ways to create pieces of pottery and I have researched a multitude of designs and patterns to aid me in the process of creating my final pieces and with these exhibited pieces I have displayed a link between my chosen tribe and my own more modernist style. The patterns surrounding the body of the pot reflect the intricate designs that the Acoma used for their own creations. The colours used embody a mixture of modern and old styles that also merges and compliments the designs itself. Displaying the pieces as a cluster brings everything together as one and it shows off the difference in shape and design.

City Culture

I have exhibited a collection of Digital pieces alongside some handmade patterns and designs. I have explored perspective and have brought in the vibrant, modern nightlife in cities, i have mainly focus on Asian cities as they tend to have more neon signs and billboards around the cities. I wanted to showcase the nightlife of cities that you don't often see. I have these designs on a simple black sweatshirt which is a common clothing item in the modern fashion industry. The design makes a statement on the simple jumper and stands out similarly to the neon signs/ billboards.

Punk Culture- Feminism

Here is work I have produced for my Final Major Project, as you can see I have included my photography experimental pieces and my final piece. The reason to why I have created this outcome/ experiments is because I wanted to create a message standing to all women about fighting against sexual assault. The design(s) create the meaning of women standing up for themselves against this political reason and showing how we can help others that are currently in this situation. I felt that this poster would make a difference to someone as to speaking about this as this is something that can be stopped. For the photos I used my photography skills and light exposure in order to enhance the coloured gels to create a relation towards the Riot Girl act. Furthermore I used Photoshop to enhance the colours. For the final outcome I simply used digital apps (procreate)

Tribes & Cultures

I have exhibited a few images of cabins and floor plans, with the theme being ‘Tribes & Cultures’ which inspired me to create an outcome to do with architecture. I chose to incorporate architecture into this project because it’s a career I aim to pursue. I chose cabins as they are an example of organic architecture, which the tribes made their huts out of.  I explored creating different cabin floor plans through 3D and photography experimenting with acetate paper, photograms and wood. The two floor plans show what the cabin would look like fully complete if it had all the furniture inside, and the darker one on acetate paper gives a blueprint effect. The two other pieces are acetate paper and another photogram of two different cabins that are from my dad’s workplace that inspired me to do cabins. The two videos are a final view of what my final piece turned out that I built over Easter and then varnished it.

3D Forms

This work was created as an exploration of 3D forms using geometric shapes. This was made with no adhesive, just the use of slotting the shapes together by making tiny incisions in each piece of cardboard.

Stories

I have done several pieces that are a spread of drawings/sketches of developing ideas I had for the theme. As well as experiments in different mediums such as paints, watercolours and different types of pens to achieve new styles as well ways of improving my work. I first looked at the theme to give myself a starting point so I could branch out and see what areas interested me most and wanted to expand on them. And I then saw how many cultures had different stories like myths and folklore that showed certain parts of their beliefs and lifestyles that really interested me most over other parts of the theme. Because of the theme it has such a large range of possibilities that you could do.  I found it to be quite hard to find what I wanted to do at first but then I was intrigued by the similarity of stories in different cultures and decided to carry on with the topic. I created two illustrations that were based on an old fairy tale, the princess and the frog but I wanted to give the story my own interpretation of it. So I did two story illustrated pieces that show the beginning part of the story.

1980’s Popular Culture

Here I have exhibited my pair of final pieces that bring together my much loved research within my theme of 1980’s popular culture. I was keen from the beginning to incorporate influential icons well known within the era as they had such a profound effect on the community and culture around them. I narrowed down my options and picked two of my favourite music artists of the time, Annie Lennox and Cyndi Lauper, which would hence improve my enthusiasm and successfulness of my work. After revisiting the technique of screen printing and thoroughly enjoying the process, I was able to effectively frame my high contrast prints within acrylic paintings of well-known 80’s models of a tv set and computer. By using material cultural elements, I was able to bring across familiarity and memories for my target audience of people who lived in and remembered the 80’s era. To tie off the pieces, I developed wallpaper designs with influences from celebrity’s fashion in the 1980’s, in exciting colour schemes that best served their purpose to bring the final outcome together in an eye-catching and intriguing format for an audience.

Cultivating Culture
My work exhibits a variety of themes connected to the exploration of underground culture, and specifically looking at why we think in certain ways and whether it is time for change. To meet this theme I looked into various aspects of underground culture, including drug and rave culture, but also looked at more generalised concepts such as the damage of social media and global exploitation. For several of my pieces I played with factors such as scale, as well as deceptive simplicity. My photos aren't loading right now, I'm having difficulty accessing them to upload to here, so that may take time to fix

Culture Tattoo Portrait

I've created a drawing to fit the theme of tribes and culture. I used my research effectively to make sure my designs link to tribes and culture together, creating my  ''tattoo red Indian portrait" using my interest and research to help inform my theme, style and tools.

Skateboarding

My work is about skate culture. As a lot of skateboarders abuse drugs I wanted to make my work like drug awareness. I used Photoshop to create my images and then printed them on heat transfer paper. I then proceeded to use the heat press to print my images onto the mini skateboards.

Drag

I have exhibited a collection of drag related items which is related to my theme tribes and cultures. I wanted to spread positivity with plus size and disabled drag queens while creating traditional drag looks, I chose to hand make a green dress to stand out and complement my makeup colour palette. The head piece was made by hand and I wanted that to link to a more traditional drag look.

Rock and Roll

I have exhibited a collection of portraits of rock and roll artists which represent different styles of rock music, with different art styles. With my theme being ‘tribes and cultures’, I wanted to show a calm side to rock and roll by just using the faces and logos.  I have explored different ways to create portraits and different styles. Creating a series of faceless portraits gave a freeness to my artwork. I liked creating different versions of the same portraits in different materials as it always had a different outcome.

Experimental Block Lettering

I have exhibited a piece of work that I completed digitally. It was inspired by a game that I was playing at the time. I took a quote from the game to use in my work. I started off sketching it out on paper and when I was happy with how it looked, I uploaded a photo onto my computer and outlined it.

The Identity Crisis

I have used a mix of media including digital illustration and photography. The piece is mainly all about this very real and everlasting issue to do with our identities. We copy certain traits and many other features from people, often subconsciously. However, I put an exaggeration on it by having everyone look exactly the same, they look like me. This is as important as I have researched the ‘identity crisis’ and I realised that I am affected by it, to an extent. As a result, I could use myself as a first-hand view on identity where I could tell the truth through my work. There are so many other factors in this piece but I want it to affect everyone differently and for people to see a partial reflection on themselves and open their eyes to ‘The Identity Crisis’.

Chinese culture inspired mini dress

I have exhibited a small scale dress which is inspired in Chinese culture and how they used to dress in the past. With my theme being tribal and cultures, I have explored different ways to create this dress that were also used in the dress culture in China. Blue colour and embroidery patterns have been used in dress making in China for centuries which made me use it in my dress as it was an amazing way to add texture and also show the culture off.

Black Celebrities Drawing

I have exhibited my black celebrities drawing inspired by African culture and traditions across the African continent. Using my faber-castell pencil collections I brought the old and new, bringing history in the form of textiles, symbols and makeup paintings with black influential celebrities who have made, and continue to make, a difference in the black popular culture today. A drawing to remember that no matter what we have been through as a people and its descendent we always find a way to make a difference because Africa is more than a continent, it’s the people and the great cultural history done and still being made by them.

O amanha

The work on the left side is the best work I have done this year and the best thing I created, I didn’t want to make it, I was bored and tired with I brush tool in my hand and some paper in front of me so Ii took some white and stared painting. When I finish it I looked at it and I see peace, calm so I use an app called mirror image and I mirror it, so I took a look and for me was like I was in my worst nightmare with a bright light of hope so I called it O Amanha (the name is in Portuguese) and it is about life no one really knows what are you passing through but the smile you put in your face is like a light that’s why the name is O Amanha (The Tomorrow) because today maybe hard but tomorrow will be better. The right one is for my train project, not the greatest but really enjoyed doing it, is an English actor painted with the darkest tone on the face and colour.

Gothic Subculture

This piece is to show the different types of gothic subcultures in a creative and eye-catching way. Each individual image has a different colour pallet and style giving a simple yet effective way of showing the subcultures

Mods and Rockers

I have exhibited a collection of earrings I designed to highlight how the Mods and Rockers cultures were intertwined. I used polymer clay to create earrings which featured emblems that were associated with each culture, this was to signify how the two cultures are interwoven.

LGBTQ+ Community

I have made a hoodie inspired my culture LGBTQ+ Community. The Rainbow in the middle signifies the whole of LGBTQ+ because that is the main logo for that community and the vines around the edge signifies camp. I chose LGBTQ+ because I figured there was more of a variety of things I can do and mainly everything can be related to it from different perspectives.

African

The work is about African tribes. It is made from three parts - top with pop up sleeve, bikini and long skirt. For the design I used fabric with amazing bright colours inherent in the tribes. The fabric material is 100% cotton Wax.

Star Wars

I have exhibited my final piece for my end. This piece is inspired by different forms of Star Wars media for example movies and comics. It involves Anakin/Vader from the movie episode 3 on the front cover of a comic book. This comic cover makes use of different comic eras.

Different Styles

I have exhibited a collection of drawings that I have made. I have experimented with different styles and colours. For example, I have created a tonal piece and a coloured pencil piece using softer pencils. I mainly like to draw faces as I really enjoy it. However, I also like to use watercolour when drawing outside scenery.

Tribes, cultures, death and burials

I have exhibited a collection of pictures of some of my projects with the main theme being death. I have made a clay skull and a cast skull which I have then painted using flowers and colours inspired by day of the dead celebrations. The coffin filled with bones, flowers and leafs had similar inspiration and the heart within it represents the soul. This heart I have stitched together is surrounded by new life, flowers and plants even though its suggested remains are slowly dying and decaying. The bones are made of clay while the plants and heart are made from felt and cotton materials which have all been hand stitched together. The coffin it is held in is made from reclaimed wood.
